Gauri Vridi
Gauri Vridi is an architect from Chandigarh. She draws her inspiration from her father, a chief town planner who worked under Le Corbusier. She completed her bachelor’s in architecture from Chandigarh College of Architecture between the years 1966 and 1971. She took her first job in South Africa where she worked on several projects including a shopping centre. She moved to London with her office opening there. There she worked with Maxwell Fry and Jane Drew on a mass housing project. She also worked on a mass housing project for the USA. Gauri then immigrated to Alberta, Canada and worked on several projects she also enrolled for her master’s at the University of Calgary. Later she moved back to India and taught in Chandigarh.

Summary:She then describes her time after moving back to India, teaching in Chandigarh, and after three years of academics, wanting to be back on-site. She lists projects she did with government bodies, and an interior design project with the State Bank of India. Summary:Referring to the gender roles in each of the places she worked, she notes how Africa was a splendid experience for her overall she was young and warmed up to their culture fast, along with being treated as an equal in terms of salary and work selection. She details experiences of the same kind in London, where she gained critical insight into her own work, among other things. She also speaks of her postgraduate education and the decision to take it up, and recalls launching her own firm while in Chandigarh as she had an entrepreneurial desire towards her vocation which she wanted to explore.
